My First Art Market

Hello my friends. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I’ve got some exciting news to share. I recently participated in my very first art market and I had an absolute blast.

I mainly sell my art online and I’ve had substantial success selling to collectors all over the world, but I realized only recently that I’ve been neglecting my local market. I’m from Augusta, Georgia, born and raised, but I had no idea they had a local market. It runs form 8am-2pm every Saturday from March until November.

For the last two weekends I’ve made my way down to the market to scope things out. I absolutely loved what I saw. There were tons of local vendors, from people selling food to super talented artisans.

Being that I have never sold at an outside market before, I had no supplies what so ever. I figured it was worth the investment to go ahead and spend the money. I went out and bought a canopy, tables, table cloths, bins to carry supplies, and even a couple of foldable wagons to transport stuff to and from my car. We even went all out and bought a couple of battery powered RYOBI fans. (By the way they work fabulously.)

The Thursday before the market, I did a little test run at home. I set up the tent and the tables so I could arrange all of the art how I wanted it. I thought it was better to do this at home, then trying to figure it all out when we got down there.

On the day of the market my wife and I got up at 4:30am to be down there for setup by 6am. When we got there we realized we probably should have gotten there earlier, because vendors were already setting up and had the best spots. We were assigned a spot at the very end of the market. Not the most ideal spot, but boy was it beautiful. Our spot was facing the Savannah River. The view was great, but the mosquitoes, not so much.

All in all we had a wonderful time and met lots of interesting people. We sold quite a few pieces of art and gained some new wonderful collectors. We also learned a lot from our first experience and we’re already making improvements for the next one. We’ll be returning on August 6th. I can’t wait. Hope to see y’all there.
