Reflection: Finding Ourselves Through Art

“You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul.” ~George Bernard Shaw.

This quote by George Bernard Shaw resonates deeply with me and perfectly encapsulates the essence of my piece, **"Reflection, 2019."** Art, in its purest form, serves as a mirror—not just of what we look like, but of who we truly are beneath the surface.

When I created "Reflection," I aimed to capture that inner dialogue we all have with ourselves—the thoughts, fears, hopes, and dreams that swirl around within us. This piece, drawn in black ink, is a visual exploration of that complex inner world. The crowned figure symbolizes self-awareness and the journey of understanding who we are at our core. The bold lines and abstract forms represent the many layers that make up our identities, often hidden behind the masks we wear daily.

This artwork is more than just a drawing; it is an invitation to look inward. What do we see when we strip away the superficial? What truths emerge when we look beyond the surface? For me, "Reflection" is about taking a moment to pause and look deeper, to confront the parts of ourselves that we often avoid or overlook.

I believe that art has the power to reveal truths about ourselves that we may not always be conscious of. It can be a journey into our subconscious, where we can discover the parts of us that are raw, honest, and uniquely our own.

What do you see in this piece? How do you reflect on your own inner world? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Let’s start a conversation about the ways we use art to explore who we truly are.
